As a seasoned leader with more than 30 years experience in the marketplace and Christian ministry settings, Karl’s primary goal is to see organizations grow in health and effectiveness and to see their leaders grow in health and maturity. He is focused on long term sustainability and impact for both organizations and leaders, and is firmly convinced that healthy, effective leadership is the key ingredient.
With more than 20 years of leadership coaching experience, Karl helps Christian CEOs, business owners, and executive directors clarify and achieve their personal and business goals and grow in their understanding and practice of true servant leadership. He also helps them face and address their personal and business challenges with integrity, patience, and creativity, tailoring his coaching to the nuances of each person’s individual situation.
Karl has led in large and small businesses in three different states and with people from many different cultural backgrounds. His wide-ranging leadership experience is especially strong in operations and logistics, building healthier organizational culture, leading teams, and developing leaders.
As Lead Pastor of a congregation of 300, Karl served as executive director and head of staff, leading an effective and passionate team of more than 20 full time and part time staff, including 5 direct reports. He mentored and coached leaders across departments, establishing a healthy and productive leadership culture and a constructive work environment.
Prior to his work as a pastor, Karl served as Director of Leadership Development for a network of more than 200 congregations located between Washington D.C. and New York City, comprised of 450 congregational and regional leaders and 18,000 members from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. He coached and consulted widely within and beyond the network, collaborating with colleagues on dozens of new training initiatives with a particular focus on emerging leaders.
As a marketplace leader, Karl was a Senior Manager in non-profit research institutes in three different states. The largest of these was a social sciences division which included 250 professional staff and generated $60 million in annual revenue. He also served as a Senior Project Manager for large data collection projects, including a multi-year national survey that coordinated the work of 50 professional staff, 400 front line staff, 2 major subcontractors, and a $13.2 million budget.
Karl has also chaired and served on boards of directors in multiple congregations and non-profits in three different states.
Ideal Member
Karl is looking for Christian CEOs, business owners, and executive directors leading companies or organizations that generate revenue of at least $2 million and have at least 10 employees. An ideal member also wants to grow, is willing to learn from others, and has some understanding of servant leadership. The goal of the group is to become a true community of brothers and sisters who face and process challenges together, and who encourage each other to grow in character, effectiveness, and excellence.
Chair Philosophy
Karl wants to invest in, equip, and encourage Christian CEOs, business owners, and executive directors who see their own learning and growth as a crucial next step in the growth and impact of the businesses and organizations they lead. He believes that the most effective leaders are servant leaders who are committed to integrity, lifelong learning, and real community.
